Maximising cheese and dairy product sales through the wholesalers

Maximising cheese and dairy product sales through the wholesalers

As any wholesaler knows, cheese is often integral to a customer’s shop, so if you aren’t able to provide what they are looking for, you risk losing the whole basket.

Here’s the seven things you need to know to ensure your customers get what they are looking for and for you to increase your cheese sales.

Know your customers

Understanding your customer base and what they need in terms of product type and price validity will help ensure customers are never walking away without making a purchase. For example, if you have a lot of fast-food restaurants using one of your stores, ensure you have dedicated pizza cheeses, cheese blends and ropes to secure that customer spend and even increase it.

Know your products

Learn all there is to know about your cheese and dairy product offer so you can give more informed advice to customers about their cheese choices. Be able to talk to them about on-trend alternatives or those which offer more taste, better value or more functionality. This customer-centric approach is the way we do business at Bridge Cheese.

Expand your product offer

Don’t just stick to what you know – there may be new or different cheese products out there that will sell really well that you haven’t yet considered. We recently relaunched our website to provide a more user-friendly and functional ‘shop window’ for our wholesale customers to see the full range of UK-made products we offer from cheddars and hard cheeses to mozzarella products, all in a selection of formats.

Stock something for every budget

We always encourage our wholesaler customers to stock a range of cheese products. Most of our customers carry a high, mid and low-priced product offer to ensure they have something to meet their customers’ needs – regardless of budget.

Promote products

We provide tailored support to individual wholesalers with printed marketing collateral and promotions to drive sales in-store and online.

Be consistent

When it comes to fresh foods like cheese, the key to maximising sales lies in being consistent and offering customers a product they can rely on time and again. That means ensuring stock levels are always maintained and that the product quality is consistent. It only takes a product to be out of stock or for the quality to fall short one or two times, and you’ve lost that customer’s business. All of our products are manufactured right here in the UK, to keep our supply chain as quick and agile as possible.

Give new products a try!

If you want to try new products, work with a supplier who can help you set up trials. With us, there’s a lot of flexibility on case sizes and minimum order quantities, which we know can be a prohibitive factor when dealing with other larger, less agile suppliers, when looking to stock new items.
